My Worst Cinema Experience!

Today I visited my local cinema to see The Avengers for the forth time and it was possibly the worst movie going experience I have ever had. There was no problem whatsoever with the film, in fact the film was absolutely astounding but unfortunately the crowd was not, it was filled with noisy eaters, annoying kids and heavy breathers.

The thing that I found the most irritating was the children, they were just downright rude and ignorant of other peoples enjoyment of the film. I was sat a row in front of a family of four with two children aged around 4-5 years and surprise surprise the female of the children started to get bored in a film that two hours twenty minutes in length. About halfway through the movie when the action of the first act had finished and the action from the last act was about to pick up the child began to become very restless, not only did she fidget lots she also began to do the most ignorant thing in the world, and began to quietly bang her feet on the floor loud enough for me and people surrounding her but not the whole screen. The child then began to talk to her dad, I didn’t give a shit what she was saying I just wanted her to keep her little gob shut. Now I know that she is a child and doesn’t really know that what she is doing is going to piss off everyone and that she does it just because of boredom. What pissed me off the most was that the parents did absolutely jack-shit. If you are going to take your children to the cinema you should ensure that they are going to behave themselves and if they don’t then it is your job to put them back in line. If this was my first viewing of this movie then I would have been even more pissed off that this child had taken all of the enjoyment out of the film. So next time you plan on taking your children to a movie screening make sure they behave themselves.

Young children weren’t the only kids in the cinema that got me royally pissed off there were also a group of what I can safely guess were young teenagers, but they are definitely the biggest dickheads in the world. Teens wonder why society hates them, well here is your answer. If you sit at the back of the screen making loud noises to try and impress the girls you are with then you will obviously make a few enemies. I know that at their age impressing girls is all they try and do but that is no reason to be such a prick about it, if I was girl I would not be impressed with a dick at the back of a cinema making annoying noises in an attempt to piss off the whole screen. I have decided that from now on I am only going to be going to over 18 screenings only and that way you won’t get any of these childish cretins in the cinema.

To add on my already pissed off mood the person sat next to me was possibly the loudest breather in the world, I could tell he wasn’t ill he was just incredibly noisy. It wasn’t too bad in the action scenes as the loud sound effects obviously overpowered his loud exhaling, but when it came to the quieter scenes all I could hear was his breathing, the child in front of me fidgeting and then teenagers at the back either talking or giggling to themselves and the noisy eater sat behind me.

Now there are very few things that are more annoying than a heavy breather but one of those things is a loud eater. I understand that some people can’t help it but if you know you are a noisy eater why in the world would you buy a large popcorn and a fizzy drink for an experience where you are supposed to be as quiet as possible. I first noticed the noise during the adverts as he was stuffing popcorn down his throat chopping as loud as possible, I thought to myself that it will stop in a minute, most people finish their popcorn before the film starts anyway, happily it did stop. What didn’t stop though was the extremely loud slurping noise he made every time he took a sip of his drink. Every five minutes through the film he took another sip making me extremely angered.

All of these experiences mixed together made me very angry, so angry in fact that with about thirty minutes before the film finished I walked out of the screen over to the checkout and demanded a refund. Luckily the woman behind the counter was extremely pleasant about the whole thing and she issued me a refund and apologised about twenty times.

Blu-Rays To BUY

Moneyball – I really liked Moneyball, I didn’t love it as much as others did but I still thought it was an engaging drama with some really great acting. This is one of Brad Pitt’s finest performances and most definitely Jonah Hill’s best, in this film I found out he really can act. Moneyball is a smart soulful baseball movie that everyone will love. You don’t have to know anything about baseball going into this movie, you could the baseball and still completely love this movie, thats how good it is.

Take Shelter – This film was utter brilliance, Michael Shannon’s acting in this film will blow you away, he gives an in-depth emotional performance that deserves some sort of recognition. I can see some people not liking this film as it isn’t filled with action and violence but if you enjoy an astonishing drama with phenomenal acting then this will be right up your ally.

Tower Heist –  I was debating whether to put this film under buy or avoid but I decided to put it here for quite a few reasons. Tower Heist is about a group of workers who lose all their money because their investor committed fraud so they conspire to rob the man who lost them all their money. I did quite enjoy this movie, it is Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy’s best movie in a while and that’s why I think it is worth a buy, I think this could be the return of good old Murphy and Stiller. If you aren’t a Stiller or Murphy fan then this obviously isn’t the movie for you but if you are a fan this is a great buy.

The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn –  If you have ever wondered what it would look like if Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg – two of the greatest directors of all time – did a motion capture movie then this is that movie. Tintin is a fast paced stunningly beautiful picture that can be enjoyed by the whole family. I’m not the biggest fan of this style of film as I struggle to gain a relationship with the characters and they seem as though they lack heart but if you can get over that then you will love this movie. I highly recommend this to anyone who was a huge fan of the original cartoons or comics as you will not be disappointed and will be constantly on the edge of your seat.

Bly-Rays To AVOID

Machine Gun Preacher – Now let me start by saying I know some people that really liked this movie, I did not. Butler performs just as good as usual but that is one of the only positives in this movie. The biggest negative is the editing, this movie dragged a lot, it could have easily been half an hour shorter to stop this movie feeling as though it’s sole purpose was to cram it with facts. I didn’t like this movie so I obviously wouldn’t recommend it but I do know people that like it so it could be right up your ally.

All of the above blu-rays will be released on Monday 19th March 2012. Which ones will you be picking up this week? Feel free to tell me your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks again for reading.

New ‘Prometheus’ Trailer

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Ridley Scott movie Prometheus at WonderCon in California. Prometheus is said to be set in the same universe as the Alien movies but there are many rumours that it is a direct prequel to the Alien movies. Prometheus centres on a group of explorers who are taken to a distant planet by a clue to the birth of humanity, on this planet they find out that the whole human race could be in danger, it is their job to stop it. Prometheus stars Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Noomi Repace, Guy Pearce and Charlize Theron who are all astonishing actors and can’t wait to see them in their roles. You can watch Prometheus in cinemas on 1st June (UK) and 8th June (USA) and check out the new awesome trailer below.

Contagion – I didn’t think I would like this film but it turns out I really enjoyed it. This isn’t really a film that centres on the human population being killed off but it shows how the human race would react to then end of our race. Contagion has a huge ensemble of brilliant actors and actresses featuring the wonderful talents of Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow; all of them delivering stellar performances. This was actually the scariest film I saw this year as it really showed us what would happen if disease took over the world. The only downside to this film is that it may make you extremely paranoid about germs after watching it. I loved this film and think it is one of the best disaster movies I have seen in a while, therefore I definitely recommend this film.

The Ides Of March – A gripping, intelligent and entertaining political drama that is definitely worth a watch. The Ides Of March is another George Clooney directed movie and this one is phenomenal. There are brilliant performances from the wonderful Ryan Gosling, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti and of course the astonishing George Clooney. This is a pulse racing thriller that centres around American politics, if you aren’t really into politics then this might not be for you but this film really is amazing. Just for the breathtaking performances and beautiful direction I would recommend this to everyone but if you really aren’t into politics then this won’t be for you.

Game Of Thrones Season 1 – I never actually watched Game Of Thrones, yes I know I have been told many a time that I am missing out. But don’t worry I will be picking this up soon and then I will be able to experience that critically acclaimed series. From what I have heard I would definitely recommend this to a lot of people but I can really judge until I actually give it a watch. I think that you should pick this up just because of all the buzz and acclaim that has surrounded it.

Blu-rays To AVOID

Immortals – I really really hated this movie, I wasn’t interested from any of the poster or trailers. While watching Immortals all I thought about was how much this film is trying to mimic 300, yes it has the same producers but it doesn’t mean you have to try and recreate the exact same film. To be fair to this film, it does look pretty nice, and has surprisingly great looks for such a dreadful film. It seems as though film makers can never get these sort of films right and I don’t want to see hundreds of more attempts until they make a good one. I really wouldn’t recommend this film to anyone as I hated it so much, but its your call.

The Rum Diary –  I was unsure where to put this film as I would have given it around three stars which technically means you like it but I don’t think it is worth your £15 so I would recommend it but when the price goes down or just for a rental. It does take a long time to get going and by that time a majority of the audience would have drifted off but I still thought parts were pretty funny and warm-hearted. So if you think this film s for you then you will probably like it and you should pick it up but for most people I wouldn’t recommend The Rum Diary until it is around £6 or if its on Netflix.

Anonymous –  I know a few people that actually liked this film but I thought that it was pretty poor, the acting  wasn’t the best I have ever seen the, and the best part of the whole film was the costume design which I actually thought was quite impassive. The storyline and script are bizarre and are so unbelievable, yes some people may enjoy it and like the bizarreness of it, but it just didn’t wash with me. I wouldn’t actually recommend this to anyone but if it is on television it might be worth a brief watch but please don’t waste your money on it.

All of the films about are released on Monday 5th March so you can pick up the ones you want tomorrow. So what are you picking up this week? Feel free to tell me your thoughts in the comments below. ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ Teaser Trailer

A teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming Seth Rogen written movie Neighbourhood Watch. It centres on a group of suburban dads that form a neighbourhood watch group in order to get some free time away from their families, which leads them to discover a plan to destroy the earth. Neighbourhood Watch stars Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Vince Vaughn and Richard Ayoade, they are all extremely funny guys and I can’t wait to see them take on their roles. The premise of this film seems pretty poor but I am just going to watch it just to see Richard Ayoade because I love him. Neighbourhood Watch hits theatres on 27th July (USA) and 22nd August (UK) and you can check out the teaser trailer below.

‘The Avengers’ Gets A New Name & Poster!

The upcoming Joss Whedon movie The Avengers has decided to have a name change to the not so brilliant Avengers Assemble, I think this change in title is only for the UK but I am not sure at this moment in time. Avengers Assemble’s plot goes something like this, Nick Fury and the international agency S.H.I.E.L.D. bring together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki & his various membered army (Courtesy of IMDB). Avengers Assemble sees Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders and Scarlett Johansson coming together to fight the evil force Loki played by Tom Hiddleston. Avengers Assemble hits theatres on 27th April (UK) and 4th May (USA) and you can check out the new poster below.
